RESTRAUNT AND BAR EST. 1852
During the Comstock boom, which began in 1859. Sportsman's Hall was one of the
most popular stop's on the road.It has been said that there were no less than a thousand head of horses and mules in the stables
on any given night.
One of the brightest moments came at 8:01am. on April 4,1860, when Sam Hamilton, the first east
bound Pony Expresss Rider, dashed up to Sportsman's Hall, (the only Home Pony Express Station in California) where the second
rider Warren Upson, was waiting to relieve him.Upson sped off into a blinding snow storm. He and all the "Pony"
riders rode into immortality.
